Our Volunteer Program is an immersion program customized for individual travelers, students, professionals, families, groups, or anyone with the desire to serve in rural villages in Uganda. The timetable you travel, your village destination, and the projects you may be involved with are all geared to your skills and interests, and the villages' needs.
The program is collaboration between Beacon of Hope Uganda and the under-served rural villages of Uganda where we serve. We are committed to meeting the needs of our communities, and to placing developmental volunteers in worthy programs that provide safe and meaningful experiences.
If you are interested in participating in our program, write to us and we will work with you to identify your best placement options in Mukono. You have to confirm your coming with a commitment of USD$ 100 by booking a placement.
Because it is an immersion experience, days in the villages allow for a variety of opportunities. And whether you work in a clinic, school, or orphan home, participate in building or agricultural projects, or simply assist in the day-to-day tasks.
BoHU works closely with each volunteer to ensure comprehensive preparation, including both an understanding of the people with whom you will be working, and all considerations necessary for travel overseas.
Are you interested in being a BoHU volunteer, but would like more information? Contact our team and let us know what your hopes are for your volunteer experience, and we will assist you in planning a meaningful and fulfilling journey. Apply now!

Volunteers can enjoy a time in the Ugandan wild with the Mini-adventure safaris and community volunteering programs. These programs are much organized for our short-term volunteers, volunteers on mission trips, and long-term volunteers
Most visitors to Uganda are short-term volunteers or are part of a short-term mission group. Most volunteers fall in love with Uganda and its people- after discovering a new and different culture is certainly an exciting part of a trip to Uganda.
Most short-term volunteers miss-out on the other face of Uganda, the primates that are so very much of Uganda- the Pearl of Africa. On realizing that short-term volunteers come to Uganda with a purpose to accomplish something and for the most part there is little time to take insights of the Uganda Wildlife. Recently we have incorporated mini-adventure safaris into the itinerary of volunteers and short-term mission groups, much to delight of various groups, the largest being 20 in size.
With the Mini-Adventure Program in Uganda, we aim to give volunteers and interns an opportunity to work in our volunteer projects, where they can utilize their skills and help deprived children, youths and women and grow from this experience, and later go on a tour program to see the other part of Uganda. You will begin the first part of this program by working alongside our Uganda team working with these underprivileged and abandoned communities. So spending time and energy on this project will indeed help them have hope in life. Once participants have contributed to the lives of these needy children, they embark on a 7 days safari, exploring the beauty of Uganda
Most often the destination is an overnight or 3-7day trips to National Parks, the rivers and falls, Forest walks, cruises, Equator, village and country walks, seeing the beautiful countryside. These destinations include River Nile, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Budongo Forest, Mabira Forest, Lake Mburo and so many other destinations, where you can see Gorillas, Leopards, Buffalos, Giraffes, Elephants, antelopes, and so many various kinds of wildlife.
The Choices of a Mini-adventure safari for short-term volunteers and mission groups are endless and a group has a benefit of low cost per each participant.
The Uganda Adventure Programs take you to world famous wildlife national parks and you will marvel at Uganda’s natural beauty.

UGANDA ADVENTURES HOME-MUKONO
Its where your Ugandan adventures begins!
Beacon of Hope Uganda started this home as a place to host volunteers and to start offices for the organization. The guesthouse consists of a main home with kitchen, bathroom, two main bedrooms and living room and quarters for the home assistant. The home is primarily aimed at volunteers, but others are welcome to stay. For volunteers, it is a place to relax after the intense experiences of the day or week, and to discuss these with other volunteers. From here, we are in position to help arrange travel trips around the country.
All income from the home is used to support the projects of BoHU and other humanitarian projects. We are in a position to attract tourists or backpackers and we can also offer reasonable accommodation for Volunteers to stay in the dormitory Rooms or twin rooms.
Volunteers for BoHU programs are accommodated at this home in Mukono. Currently we are using toilets outside and are of the long-drop variety.
The home has electricity and a generator is available for use when the electricity fails.
Internet is available in the home via a small USB device that connects to a computer. The internet costs 2000 shillings (US$ 1) per hour. The overall consensus of the internet speed is "Not too bad".
As a volunteer, three meals a day are prepared for the volunteers by home assistant and keeps the house clean. Water comes from a tap and is boiled.
The Home has sleeping facilities for up to 6 people at a time. There is both twin bedroom and dormitory styled bedroom. More space will be available soon after the completion of the next house.
This is a low cost family-like environment accommodation and its comfortable safe home where you can meet other-like minded people.
